C-SLIDE Webcam Cover 1.0 Review and Giveaway

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

I was recently asked to provide a review for C-SLIDE Webcam Cover 1.0 . I have to say, I have been pretty paranoid about my webcam since my old laptop was hacked last month or so.

I was trying to keep the camera covered on the new laptop, but nothing was really working safely for opening and closing my laptop.  And I didn't want to cover it permanently, as I do use the camera sometimes with my remote clients.

You see- simply disabling the camera is not enough when
someone else takes control of your PC remotely.

They just turn it back on!

Here is some info from the company:

"C-SLIDE Webcam Cover 1.0 is a patented design that works with all laptops, computers, monitors, Smart TV’s, PS4, Xbox Kinect, and some External Web cameras.
Product Features:

  • Super Thin: 1mm thick so laptops are able to shut with ease
    Length: 1.5”
    Height: .5”
    Applications: double sided tape
Durable : made from high-grade plastic
Won’t Scratch: designed to open and close without harming the camera lens

Also available at the following stores: C-SLIDE, eBay, Amazon, Open Sky, and Etsy"

I have my new webcam cover, and have been using it awhile and have been happy. I was a little concerned when I saw the size of it, but when you think about it- it has to be small enough to fit in your laptop when you close it.

(as me why I replaced my computer 2 laptops ago.. no- you should not close the laptop with headphones in it...DOH!)

It was easy enough to install- some double sided tape is enclosed, and it is pretty clear cut how to install it. It was up and running in seconds.  I chose black because that is the color of my computer case. Looking back, I think I might have chosen another color, just so it is easier to see in the dark, but this works great.

I  have felt a lot better as I surf, knowing that I am not exposing my image across the interwebs for all to see.. I can sit and watch videos with my daughter and feel confident no one is watching us.. creepy right?

I have had the cover slide around a bit as I take it from place to place, but it is pretty easy to move it back into place ( it slides so you can use it when you want.) I do abuse my computer quite a bit, so it is not surprising to me that it can move...

Overall, I have been pretty pleased with the cover. It makes me feel more confident in my surfing, and it is easy to use.

Adovia Dead Sea Salt Deep Hair Conditioner

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

I have been pretty lucky lately with reviews. Adovia has had several items sent to me to try, and I have to say, so far I love them all.

I have reviewed their Dead Sea Mud Shampoo.
I have reviewed their Dead Sea Mud Mask.
I have a soap on the way to try! It is great!

I have just finished my review of Dead Sea Mud Shampoo and I was pretty please to have the Dead Sea Salt Deep Hair Conditioner to try with it.

First off, here is the description I received from Adovia-

Description:

Made with Real Dead Sea Salt - 100% Pure and Genuine for an infusion of 21 Minerals Essential to Proper Skin and Hair Function.

Leaves Hair Looking Hydrated, Healthy and Silky.

Helps to Reduce the appearance of Dandruff and Dry, Flaky Scalp.

Aloe Vera Deeply Nourishes the Scalp and Hair - Hydrating it from Within.

Dead Sea Salt contains more than 21 skin and hair rebuilding minerals such as magnesium, calcium, sulfur, bromide, iodine, sodium, zinc and potassium.

The scent of the conditioner is similar to the Dead Sea Mud shampoo. I liked the scent of the shampoo, so that is a bonus.

Like the shampoo, the conditioner leaves a light scent behind, but not overwhelming. The conditioner is a light creamy formula, and it went on very smoothly. It was easy to cover my hair with a small amount.

I was able to rinse it off easily and my hair felt very smooth afterwards. I was very easily able to run my brush through my hair. ( I have pretty long hair that tangles easily, so that is a big deal for me.)

I have been left with soft silky hair and it is a joy to touch.

I have been very happy with the conditioner- I probably will not use it every day, as the shampoo works great without it if I am not going to style my hair much. ( I throw it in a bun most days.)

But if I am going to use my hair dryer or any other styling aids, I will definitely be adding conditioner to protect my hair and repair damage.

Thanks again to Adovia for choosing me to review this conditioner. I am looking forward to more!

Adovia Dead Sea Mud Shampoo Review

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

I have been pretty lucky lately with reviews. Adovia has had several items sent to me to try, and I have to say, so far I love them all.

I was offered a bottle of Dead Sea Mud Shampoo to try most recently. I was pretty happy to give it a whirl!

When you think of getting cleaner, you don't always think about rubbing mud all over your head- but think again! Dead Sea mud is very highly rated for its incredible properties.

Here is the information provided by the manufacturer:

Adovia's Dead Sea Mud Shampoo is specially formulated with natural ingredients such as Dead Sea Mud, Chamomile & Olive Oil to bring deep hydration and moisture to the scalp, relieving itching and flakiness. Dead Sea Mud has been known for centuries for it's healing properties and people travel from all over the world to come and experience it's effects at the Dead Sea. Dead Sea Salts and Mud have been featured on CNN, in the Wall Street Journal and New York Times. Dead Sea Mud contains the highest concentration of minerals found in mud anywhere in the world. Finally the benefits of Dead Sea mud and salt are presented to you in shampoo form! These minerals are all essential for proper skin function and help to regulate moisture retention as well as hydration. You complete satisfaction is guaranteed.

I have been using this shampoo for a few weeks now, and I have been entirely pleased with it. The scent is nice, but mild, It leaves a little behind on my hair, but not overwhelming, just enough to smell clean.

I might have mentioned it before, but I have a bit of a sensitive scalp. I am very limited in what kinds of shampoos I can use on a daily basis. Some, actually many shampoos give me these kind of rashy bumpy wounds for lack of a better word on my head when I use them. So I have to be careful what I use.
I have not narrowed it down to what I have issues with..

I am happy to report that this shampoo has not given me any issues. I have been rash free and my scalp has been very happy.

My hair, well it looks great.

Shiny, clean and not weighted down. This rinses out nicely, and no, it isn't like using mud. It is creamy, a little thicker than the average shampoo, but very smooth.

I usually will use a conditioner, but I did not use any with this shampoo.

(until this week- I will be reviewing the conditioner that goes with this shampoo next;)

I was able to get my brush through my hair easily and have been very happy with the moisture levels without the conditioner.

On a weird note, it occurred to me today as I was showering, that I really like that the bottle is clear. I am busy a lot of the time, and a solid colored shampoo bottle always tricks me into thinking I have enough to wash my hair and I run out. A clear bottle lets you know when you are running low, and can stock up early!

I have been very happy with this shampoo, and look forward to using it every day (or whenever I get to shower.)

Thanks again to Adovia for choosing me to review this shampoo. I am looking forward to more!

Fixico Review + Giveaway

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

I have recently had a number of computer issues with my old laptop. I got a nasty trojan virus that allowed my computer to be taken over by someone else. It was maddening- mainly because I had, and used 3 separate anti-virus programs, and they NEVER even picked up that there was an issue. They locked me out of email accounts, tried to buy a bunch of stuff on ebay, and who knows all what else...

When I saw the chance to try Fixico, I thought this might be the answer to my issues.

Here is the information I was provided by the company:

"Fixico is like having a mini IT guy in your computer that works 24/7, never eats, never sleeps, and is always making sure that your computers are running smoothly, efficiently and safely - without bothering you.

Fixico is an expert IT management solution enabling consumers and small and medium-sized businesses to enjoy the same computer performance and security large companies enjoy. Based on IBM®’s end point management technology (IEM), Fixico provides highly targeted, automatic, real-time identification, investigation and resolution of hardware and software issues. By combining the best IT practices and technology of IBM®’s enterprise-grade solution, streamlined for consumers and small businesses with an easy to use interface, Fixico enables anyone to enjoy secure, cost effective, efficient and worry-free computer operations.

See how it works here: http://goo.gl/OJYBUr

Now with FREE Remote Access
Our expertise and state of the art technology make your computers safer and faster."

I signed up and started running this on my computer.

The download is pretty quick, and my computer was being analyzed in minutes. You can go to an online site and see the progress as it happens.

This is great to see- fixes are downloaded and applied, and you never have to wonder if your computer is protected. Clearly, even my new laptop with its multiple anti virus programs still had security issues that could be resolved with the Fixico system. the software is not stored on my PC, so it seems to me there is less of a chance for it to become violated like mine clearly did.

Fixico also tells me how much time I have saved by allowing my computer to be serviced in this way. It just runs in the background. If I want to see more, I can, but if I don't it just does its job.

My membership came with the ability to add more than one computer, so some day, when I feel brave, I can try to log back into the internet with my old laptop and have my computer repaired by Fixico. I don't feel brave enough yet. (I trust Fixico, but until the software is installed, I am still vulnerable.)

Computers are confusing sometimes, and it seems you can really get yourself into trouble! I could really see this being a great tool for someone who knew they needed protection, but didn't have the time or knowledge to manage such software themselves.

I have been very pleased with the service so far! Thanks so much to Fixico for letting me try their service.

Fixico would like to give you a chance to try their service as well- enter my giveaway for a chance!

ALLONS DANSER! (LET'S DANCE!) Review- Learning French through Music

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

My daughter is just over 2 and she loves music. I was very excited to be approved for the cd Allons chanter! (Let’s sing!)

We do not speak French in our house, but the toddler has shown interest in listening to other languages, so we have been encouraging this. The new cd we received lets her enjoy the sound of French, along with some very catchy tunes.

First, some information from the manufacturer:

"Allons danser  (Let’s dance!) Apprenons le français  (Let’s learn French!)

Get in the language-learning groove with this fun-filled collection of original tunes and beloved traditional favorites performed by internationally-acclaimed French artists Marie-Louise Desage and Didier Prossaird.

From“Bonjour Les Amis” to “Au Revoir”, kids and adults will want to dance and sing along to these irresistible rhythms and catchy lyrics that introduce French words and phrases such as numbers (“Un, Deux et Trois”), parts of the body (“La Tête, Les Épaules/Head, Shoulders”) and children’s favorite topics (“Quand Je Serai Grand/When I’m Big” and “Y’a Pas de Fête Sans Gâteau/It’s Not a Party Without Cake.”) A rollicking rendition of “Le Vieux MacDonald (Old MacDonald)” puts a French twist on a beloved classic. Take the music and fun along with this French learning CD which makes learning French as easy as un, deux, trois!"

The first time we listened to the cd my daughter started squealing and dancing around in circles. It is her way to show her joy, and it is a pretty awesome thing to behold. ( The minute the camera comes out she stops of course.)

When I sing along with the lyrics, she stops and watches me. This especially happens with “Le Vieux MacDonald (Old MacDonald)”. She recognizes that this is not the usual stuff I say and not the song she usually hears- but another language. She is pretty fascinated.

Right now she is just barely starting to sing along with songs, and I think this is going to be one of the ones she picks up fast. She enjoys the music so much! Eventually she will learn all the words, and we can talk about what it all means. There is a real learning opportunity here.

Mostly though, I love how she dances about. It is sometimes hard to motivate toddlers to move about when they know the television is right there, but she really likes this cd and it gets her moving.

Thanks so much to Whistlefritz for letting us review their awesome product!

Sun Care in the Desert, with Whole Foods

I was recently asked to participate in an educational session on sun care in the Whole Foods in Paradise Valley. I love shopping in this store, so I was pretty excited to attend.  I also had an idea in mind to put some of these sunscreens to the test- this involved a small horse and a tall toddler...more about that later..

Learn About the Alphabet through play using Upper & Lower Case Felt Letter Set

This article was published for Playtime Felts. All opinions expressed are solely my own.

My daughter is only two, but she is already getting the understanding that letters mean something. She sees writing and she asks me- what’s this? Constantly. She is just a sponge for information these days.

She still calls numbers and letters "numbas" but she gets that there is something there. We are reading to her on a regular basis, and we try to keep our fingers on the letters as we read them, so she can get the sense of what it means on paper. I suspect that she is ready to take the next step to begin using letters herself, to start identifying them.

This is where the Upper & Lower Case Felt Letter Set from Playtime felts is very helpful.
The set allows kids to touch the letters, trace their fingers on them, flip them about to help recognize the correct orientation and play. (Learning should be fun after all!) My daughter has always been very interested in touching things, even from a very early age. She picks stuff up, turns it over and over in her hands examining every aspect of the item. I find felt to be a very satisfying material to play with myself, so certainly these will be the same.

There is a lot of flexibility possible with these letters.

Here are a few ideas I am planning to use, and have read about.
·         We have a felt Christmas tree and turkey for Thanksgiving. It would be great when she is older to use the letters to make messages to us on the felt. Right now, she can just play. We intend to make a felt board for every holiday and season, so the letters will always be in use all year long.

·         This set has enough letters to make my daughter's name, so we can teach her that early on. She already has her name on her bedroom wall, so she could practice lining up the letters to match her name. (I like having soft toys in the bedroom- it keeps it as a quiet area for her.)

·         And speaking of quiet… Felt letters are always a part of every quiet book I have ever seen. Don't want to bring all the letters on a trip? Just bring the vowels, and incorporate vowel lessons in the pages of the quiet book. You can have a few pages for each letter, and still cover a valuable lesson.

·         If you want to have a little time to yourself in the kitchen, you can take the felt letters and clip them with a magnetic clip. My daughter ADORES magnets and moving them about on the fridge. It will be a quick transition to learn the order of the letters and how to spell words eventually.  If lets parents do some cooking or cleaning while the little one is learning and playing with the letters.

·         I have been reading up on Montessori methods for my daughter- these letters are very useful to help employ the methods. Apparently, there is a traditional way of introducing letters, and that is to teach the names of the letters to the child. The Montessori approach as I understand it, is to use the lower case letters first, and then introduce the sounds they make, and not introduce the names of the letters until the child is 3 or more.  I like this idea and it makes sense to me. It sets the groundwork to read by teaching sounding out instead of just memorization which is not as dependable in my mind.

·         Older kids can match up the letters to items that you might place on a tray or mat. The A can be placed next to an apple for example. But the creativity doesn’t need to end there. You can set your child up with a blanket on the floor and have them do their own alphabet scavenger hunt in the house. They find their own items to match up with the letters.  I don’t know about you, but Z is going to be a killer at our house! You may not see your kids for hours as they go around trying to find something. (Luckily we have a xylophone, so that one won’t be hard;)

I am getting excited about this one already. I am imagining my adult friends doing this at a Halloween party or such. They would be roaming all over trying to finish the game! Even adults have something they can learn.

If you are lacking imagination there are literally THOUSANDS of posts on Pinterest to help fire you up. Learning the alphabet can be so much fun when using tools that are inspiring to a child. Quality materials last for years and are reached for time and time again!

Getting More Life Out of Your Toddler's Wardrobe - Dapper Snappers Review & Giveaway

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

I was recently asked to review Dapper Snappers. I have seen these around, but never picked them up for some reason. I guess we found one!

My daughter was born on the large side. She has since been very tall. When I say tall, I mean 95-99% range tall. She is bigger than some kids a year or more older than her. She is also a little on the thinner side in the belly, at least judging by the pants we buy..

Shopping is a challenge. She grows in spurts of course, so I have almost always purchased clothes that were too big, stretchy and long.

We use cloth diapers so we always need to make sure we have room in the booty to cover the diaper. So many clothes these days are short crotch to waist, so her diaper is always poking out.

Toddler life is hard right?

Well, not that bad, but we do look for ways to make things easier. In this case- Dapper Snappers.

A little about the product, from the manufacturer:

"*Versatile in a wide range of colors for girls and boys
*Recommended for ages 9 months -6 years old and One Size Fits All
*Perfect for kids who are in between sizes or wearing hand-me-downs!
*Adjustable to 4 sizes
*Convenient - no need to remove for diaper changes & doesn’t impede potty training
*100%  in the USA
*Mom-invented"

We rarely buy anything denim because it almost never covers her, and of course we do live in Phoenix.

Denim can be warm. But we got a pair of hand me down pants from a relative, from the Gap. They are practically in new shape, and I was pretty determined to get some wear out of them.

Problem is- she is just now wearing them at the right length, and still the waist is too loose. When I put a disposable diaper on her to go out, the pants just came right on down. They sit ok on her, but they fall down when she is active. And of course she is very active.

So along comes Dapper Snappers!

We attached it to the pants and I am happy to report that the toddler is able to:

  • run and not loose her pants
  • bend over and not show her whole diaper and bum to the world
  • pull them up and down if she really wanted to ( great for later potty training)
  • wear a disposable diaper easily
  • have her diaper changed without fussing with the zipper and snaps on the pants
We really like the color of this lavender item. It is pretty, and will match a lot of her wardrobe.. because toddlers want to match!

It is on the small setting for these pants, but we can easily adjust it to bigger when she gets bigger. It will last her a very long time!

So what are some tips to get more from the toddler wardrobe?

  • buy big- tunic shirts can be worn as dresses, and then shirts, pants can be rolled up
  • buy light clothes and layer ( in case you are out of season- you can always add a layer)
  • buy stretchy
  • add Dapper Snappers to extend the time to wear pants ( it can go up to 6 years old!)
  • add Dapper Snappers extender clips for pants with no belt loops
