Review and Coupon-Yummi Pouch Reusable Food Pouches

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.
I have a toddler, as you all know.. she is a picky eater sometimes. She is also messy as can be. I dread giving her certain foods because of the mess. I know, I know.. it is part of having a toddler. Exploring the texture of food is important in her development etc.. but sometimes, you know, I just don't want yogurt all over the kitchen.

So, I was pretty excited to get a chance to test out Yummi Pouch reusable food pouches.

Here is the info they provide:

Awesome, I say.

Here is the selection they sent us to try, toddlers hand for scale;)
(note- there are 2 of the orange checkered pouches, and 2 of the blue, they were in use)

Toddlers enjoy pouches. They look cool. They know good things are in them. Empty pouches make toddlers sad.

I really like the top opening pouches. These are great for yogurt, applesauce, and even cream of wheat if you get the lumps out. Trust me- get the lumps out. Toddlers get really mad if their pouch gets clogged;)

When using this one, be certain to not the fill line on the side. If you don't, little hands will squeeze that right out onto themselves.

When I fill these, I just use a spoon and scoop the item in. I make up a powdered pea and milk recipe and sometimes that can be poured in, if I make it runny enough.
I really find filling to be an easy process. I just do it over the sink, so if i get a little distracted, the excess ends up in the sink.

Yes. I get distracted by a toddler.

Which brings me to an idea that is helpful- make up more than one pouch at a time. That way you can just hand them over when there is a hungry monster in town. They can be stored in the fridge or even the freezer. Potentially you can get quite a few meals prepped at once here. If you make your own baby food for a baby, this is going to be a real healthy and fast option.

I do not microwave.. but instead, I place the pouch in warm water to get it to the temp desired. It keeps the temp from being hot in one spot and freezing in another.

The bottom opening is also a great option. I really love the fact that you can choose which are your favorites based on different types of food.

This was an idea I came up with one day when the toddler was cutting some teeth. I can tell you, she is such a grump when she hurts, and she isn't quite able to communicate it. I filled up the large pouch with slightly watered down chamomile tea, and froze it. I put a thick sock on it, and handed it to her. She was able to munch on the cold cold liquid as it melted, and the sock kept her hand from getting frozen too. She liked this a lot. She is a fan of chamomile tea too. I know that the pouch factor is huge. She would not do this from a sippy cup or bottle. It just isn't as cool.. toddlers..

So what about cleaning?

Although they are marked dishwasher safe, I don't run the dishwasher enough to wait.. I just hand wash with regular dish soap and the bottle brush that we use on baby bottles. That works pretty well for me. When I need to get into the spout, I try rinsing first, then I use the tiny bottle nipple cleaner. It fits the spout perfectly. I try to open the pouch and soak it as soon as baby is done, so nothing gets caked in there. It just makes life easier.

This can be a great option if you are trying to eat green, and save money. The cost of pre-made pouches in the store is insane. My daughter could have 6 pouches of pre-bought food a day if I let her... but that is not healthy! We do our own foods and she loves that. These pouches come in different sizes, so I can control portions and know what is consumed.
