Call to action on "To Train Up a Child" and ending justified child abuse

As you may know, dear readers, I am not in the camp of strict discipline and spanking for my family. We believe that children are valued members of the family, and should never be struck, especially in anger. There is a very popular news story this week regarding a family that chose to implement a harsh path for their children, to the point where the child died. This is unacceptable to me on so many levels, I can not even express it.

There are a few efforts going around to try to get the book removed from sale by Amazon:

I am a fan of this. As the largest book retailer that I can think of these days, I think they have an opportunity here to help end these senseless deaths, and the ongoing abuse that this book advocates. This is not just a book that tells a story of abuse, or recalls a person's abuse in a fiction or non fictional way. This is a book that advocates breaking a child, physically and mentally. This is a book that tells parents to hit their children, and often.

We will not be buying it, the book nor the advice. We will love our daughter, respect her, and will never stoop so low in our parenting to have the need to beat our child into submission.

If you feel the same, and feel compelled to take action, the blog above offers a few ways to let Amazon know ho you feel. I am a fan of the tweet they put together:

Dear @amazon please REMOVE this offensive book advocating beating children from your website. http://www.amazon.co.uk/To-Train-Up-Child-children/dp/1892112000#_ RT if you agree

If you decided to act, share it in the comments, so others can be inspired as well.
